Introduction

The Austrian Workers‘ Compensation Board (AUVA) has launched a management system for occupational health and safety, known as AUVA-SGM. This standard meets the requirements of the EU-guidelines for OSH-management systems and also covers the main legal obligations deriving from the Austrian Workers‘ Compensaiton Act („ArbeitnehmerInnenschutzgesetz“). The aim of this web-based application is to support organizations of all types and sizes throughout the progress of (re-) assessing the current status of their OSH management system. After having answered a set of questions according to the eight chapters of the AUVA-SGM standard. The application is being used by professional consultants as well as interested people within organizations.
The Process of Assessing the Status of the OSH Management System within an Organization
The application allows you to start at which ever chapter you decide to work on first. There are questions about requirements all management standards generally have in common, such as establishing a policy, defining rules and responsibilities within the organisation as well as setting goals and measuring achievements.
The centerpiece of the application is a set of questions about how the main legal requirements of the Austrian Workers‘ Compensation Act are being met. The processes which need to be defined are:
- assessment of occupational hazards and risks
- planning and purchasing
- coordination of external people
- repair and maintenance of machines and plants
- inspections and examinations
- emergencies and hazardous situations
- health assessment
- worker wellbeing/ welfare
The Benefits to Businesses and Organizations
The applicaiton allows organizations so self-assess their status. The information will be saved in the local cache of the user’s computer. It is free to use and can be repeated a soften as necessary. It can also be used on any Android mobile phone and is available in the Google Play store. The application os available in German language only.
