Introduction

The occupational groups in the building and construction industry retain top positions in national work injury statistics, mainly through traumatic and musculo-skeletal injury and disease.

The latest report on occupational risks in Sweden (AFA 2006) show that building and construction workers run risks of sustaing severe and permanently disabling work-related injuries several times higher than the labourmarket average (Table 1). They also run higher than average risks of sustaining occupational injuries resulting in permanent medical impairment (Table 2)
